This course will cover everything you need to know about data protection in education, including the role of a Data Protection Officer, the types of information that will be handled, you will also explore how your educational setting can ensure that they are GDPR complaint.

Units covered

  • Unit 1 – Introduction to GPDR in Education – In the first unit of our GDPR in Education course, you will explore what GDPR is, why GDPR in education is important and why Data Protection Officers are required in schools. You will also explore the roles and responsibilities of a Data Protection Officer.
  • Unit 2 – Personal Data in Education – This unit will examine in more detail what personal data is, the difference between personal and sensitive data, the types of information that will be handled in school, as well as how long you can store student data for after they leave school.
  • Unit 3 – How to Become GDPR Compliant – In this unit you will look at examples of good practice being followed in schools, as well as how you can gain parental consent for data processing and the risk of non-compliance. You will also explore the types of penalties.
  • Unit 4 – Good Practice – In the final unit you will explore some of the good practices that Educational settings should implement to be complaint with GDPR, you will explore the importance of performing audits on data processing practices, as well as issuing privacy notices to parents.
