All about this Fire Safety in Care Homes course

Throughout this course, you will be introduced to the importance of Fire Safety in Care Homes and who has the legal responsibility for fire safety within a care home setting.

You will learn about the two main types of care homes and that they are both establishments that provide professional care to a wide range of people, of all different ages.

You will acknowledge that it is vital to understand the type of care home, the type of premises and the different groups of people it will cater for when looking at fire safety.

You will learn that the responsible person who is in charge of all fire safety arrangements within the premises must be named.

They have a duty to protect anyone who is lawfully on the premises and could be at risk in a fire, e.g. employees, agency workers, residents, family members, contractors and others.

You will acknowledge the fire safety laws, legislations and regulations associated with fire safety in care homes.

You will consider that a fire risk assessment (FRA) is a methodical practical exercise, which looks at the care home premises, the activities within and the type of occupants.

It considers the hazards that could start a fire on the premises, the likelihood of a fire occurring and the harm it could cause. It is essentially an evaluation of risk.

At the end of this Fire Safety in Care Homes course you will learn that residents should be given information on the care homes fire safety rules and should be encouraged to assist in fire prevention.

You will also take a look at a fire warden’s role in preventing fires and protecting people if a fire does occur. As well as looking at fire safety tests, checks and inspections and how these can be recorded.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
