All about this Understanding the EYFS course

This course incorporates all the Early Years Foundation Stage Updates, which came into place in September 2021.

This course is suitable for those working in Early Years and will enable you to have the skills and knowledge needed to implement the changes and ensure you are following them correctly.

This course will start with an introduction to the EYFS and why it has been changed. You will then explore in detail what the changes are and how you can implement the changes into your role and setting. You will also explore the relevant legislation that applies to the EYFS.

This course is suitable for people who work with young children in either a school, nursery or childcare environment.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

Units covered

  • Unit 1 – Introduction to the EYFS – In the first unit, you will be introduced to what the course will cover, you will then explore what the EYFS is and relevant statutory framework for the EYFS. You will then consider why the EYFS is being changed and the timeline for the changes.
  • Unit 2 – What are the changes? – In this unit you will gain insight into the new updates, including changes to educational programs, The 2021 Development Matters and the four guiding principles. You will explore the minor changes to the safeguarding and welfare requirements and you will also cover the different assessments stages.
  • Unit 3 – Relevant Legislation – In this unit you will explore the relevant legislation that applies to EYFS. Including the Food Safety Act, The Education Act 2002, The Children Act 1989, Every Child Matters 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018 etc. Each piece of legislation will be summarised with what applies to EYFS.
  • Unit 4 – How to implement changes –  In the final unit of our Early Years Foundation Stage 2021, you will cover how you can implement the EYFS changes into your role and setting. You will explore what is remaining the same, how to design a curriculum, new requirements for oral health, communication skills, assessment arrangements, etc.
