Throughout this course, you will gain knowledge on what Parkinson’s is and how it can affect people living with Parkinson’s, which in turn will enable you to offer outstanding care and support. You will also look at the possible causes and risk factors, and their relationship with Parkinson’s.
You will also look at the lifestyle factors that can prevent Parkinson’s and lessen its initial symptoms. You will also look at the signs and symptoms of young-onset Parkinson’s and how these may vary.
You will also look at when and how Parkinson’s is suspected and diagnosed and the treatment options available. You will also look at a case study relating to the diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson’s.
At the end of the course, you will explore how Parkinson’s progresses and how this can lead to ill health and mortality and why knowing this is important in symptom management. You will also learn how to better manage symptoms both motor and non-motor, as well as how to manage mental wellbeing.
There may be unfamiliar terminology, therefore key phrases and words will be in bold.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

In the first unit of the Parkinson’s Awareness course you will learn what Parkinson’s is and how the brain’s physiology is different from those without Parkinson’s.
Signs and Symptoms
This unit will cover the signs and symptoms of Parkinson’s, including both movement and non-movement symptoms, you will also look at the psychological impact of Parkinson’s on an individual.
Diagnosis and Treatment
In this unit you will explore how Parkinson’s is diagnosed and the treatment options available, including medications, exercise and therapies. You will also look at the new treatments which are being researched.
Living with Parkinson’s
In the final unit of the Parkinson’s awareness course, you will focus on how someone can live with Parkinson’s and achieve better outcomes and manage symptoms.
