This Legionella and Legionnaires’ Disease course is suitable for anyone who work in settings where legionella could become present, including landlords.

Throughout this course you will gain a greater understanding of what Legionella is and how it has the potential to be life threatening. You will discover where Legionella can be found, the signs and symptoms that a person will show if they contract it and who is at greater risk.

Towards the end of the unit you will gain full knowledge of each legislation that is applicable to legionella and how you can control and reduce the risks of legionella.

On completion of this course you will feel you have gained a greater knowledge of legionella and legionnaires’ disease and will know how to protect yourself and others from contracting legionnaires’ disease.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

Introduction to legionella

In our first unit you will be introduced to legionella bacteria and why it is hazardous. You will learn how legionella enters the body and what health risks can occur. The unit will finish off by exploring who is at higher risk of developing Legionnaires’ disease and where people can contract it.

Environments

Here you will be introduced to the environments where legionella bacteria can be found, the workplaces that are at higher risk of legionellosis and what types of systems can be at risk of legionella.

Identifying and assessing risks

Next you will explore risk assessments and the applicable legislation. You will look at how the significant findings of the legionella risk assessment should be recorded and arrangements for review and what the requirements for employees are.

Controlling and reducing risks

In this unit you learn how to control and reduce the risks of legionella. You will look at how to prevent the risk of exposure to legionella and what control measures are required when the risks cannot be prevented.

Legislation

In our final unit you will consider all legislation applicable to legionella and will learn who is responsible for managing risks. You will also learn about the landlord duties in futuher detaill. The unit will finish by looking at the enforcement action that could be taken if a duty holder is found to be in breach of legionella associated legislaion.
