All about this Employment Law Course

In this course, you will explore what employment law is and why it is important, you will also gain knowledge on the history of employment law and the main employment laws in the UK, including The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, The Employment Rights Act 1996, The Equality Act 2010, etc. You will also explore the policies that workplaces should have in place.

You will also cover the recruitment process and how to ensure you get each stage of the process correct. You will gain knowledge on working arrangements and employee leave entitlement. You will be able to access a free employee handbook template for you to use.

You will also learn about disputes, discipline and grievance procedures in the workplace. You will also look at ACAS Code of Practice and disciplinary and grievance procedures that as a minimum, workplaces must follow. You will also explore employment terminations and pensions and the legal requirements of each.

In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.

You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

Units covered

  • Unit 1 – Introduction to Employment Law – In the first unit of the course, you will be introduced to employment law and why it is important, the history of employment law and the main employment laws in the UK. You will also gain knowledge on the policies workplaces should have in place.
  • Unit 2 – Recruiting and Inducting/Onboarding Staff – In this unit you will explore what you need to remember in the recruitment stage, the protected characteristics, safer recruitment, right to work checks, copying documents and what a conditional and unconditional employment offer is.
  • Unit 3 – Working Arrangements and Employee Leave Entitlements – In this unit you will explore in detail the employment contract, including the terms and conditions of the employment, you will also look at leave entitlements including keeping in touch and returning to work, the induction and onboarding process, probation and the employee handbook.
  • Unit 4 – Disputes, Discipline and Grievance Procedures in the Workplace – In this unit you will examine poor performance and capability, discipline, grievance and whistleblowing policies and procedures.
  • Unit 5 – Employment Terminations and Pensions – In the final unit of the employment law course, you will examine the legal aspects of resignations, including constructive dismissal. Dismissal including, unfair and wrongful dismissal. You will also explore redundancy, end of fixed-term contracts, retirement, pensions and tribunals.
