All about this Violence at Work course
Our violence at work course is suitable for managers and staff who are in roles where violence in the workplace is more likely to happen. This is something that you need to be aware of to be able to protect yourselves, others and know what the risks of a violent assault can be.
Throughout this course, you will be introduced to violence at work, you will learn who is at most risk and the possible warning signs to look out for. You will also gain a greater knowledge of the legislation, policy and procedures around violence at work and will know what action to take if you or someone you know experiences violence. The course will finish off by exploring the ways to prevent and control violence in the workplace.
At the end of this course students will feel more confident in how to handle violence in the workplace and what legislation is in place that will protect them in certain situations.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

Units covered
- Unit 1 – Introduction to Violence at Work – In our first unit you will be introduced to work-related violence, including the HSE definition. You will then move onto exploring who can be violent at work, as well as some of the causes of work-related violence.
- Unit 2 – Who is most at risk and the warning signs – Next you will consider who is most at risk of work-related violence and how staff behaviour can escalate violence in the workplace. The unit will then finish off by exploring the warning signs and if they can prevent violence in the workplace.
- Unit 3 – Types of violence – Here you will explore the four types of violence in the workplace according to the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). You will also explore what criminal intent violence is and who is at more risk. You will also consider the workers who are at risk of customer/client violence.
- Unit 4 – Legislation, policy and procedures – In this unit you will be introduced to the legislation relating to work-related violence. You will also explore the legal requirements for reporting certain incidents of work-related violence. You will finish off by exploring some of the enforcement actions that could be taken against employers, if a worker is physical and psychological affected by work-related violence.
- Unit 5 – Preventing and controlling the risk of violence – In our final unit you will consider how to prevent and control the risks of violence at work, you will also look at the HSE’s four-stage process to prevent and control the risks of work-related violence. The unit will finish off by exploring the ways in which employers can provide support for victims of violence after an incident.
