All about this Supporting Children’s Transition to Schools course

This course is designed to give learners an in-depth knowledge of supporting children’s transition to school. It will include both information on transition and practical tips on how to help support children when starting school. The transition process can be a difficult time for children, their parents and carers, and teachers and support staff, so it is important to know how to try and ease this.

In this course you will look at how transitioning to school can impact on children’s development, both positively and negatively, you will consider some of the practical ways in which practitioners can help to prepare children for school alongside working towards the Early Learning Goals.

You will explore children’s ‘school readiness’ under the following categories: working with themselves, working with other children and working with adults, you will look at these categories in-depth and consider what is included in them. You will also take a look at how practitioners can help to promote communication, confidence, independence, managing and controlling feelings and behaviour, and co-operation in their settings through the prime areas of learning.

Finally you will explore how transition can be defined, its effects on the brain and its potential effects on children’s development in the Early Years Foundation Stage. You will also consider insecure attachment relationships and securely attached children.
