All about this Introduction to Welfare Benefits Course
On completion of the course, students will gain an understanding of the welfare benefits system structure and the different types of benefits available. Students will learn about who can claim benefits, how to make a claim and how benefits are paid and how to appeal a decision.
Students will learn about about means-tested benefits and the different types of welfare benefits as well as carer welfare benefits and council tax support.
The course will cover welfare benefits for children and families, help with childcare costs and associated entitlements. We will cover Maternity, paternity and shared statutory pay as well as maternity grants. Students will also look at some case studies and examples of a benefit calculations.
Students will learn about disability welfare benefits, personal independence payments and universal credit. We will cover the work capability assessment and employment support allowance as well as statutory sick pay. Students will also learn about what happens when a claimant is in residential care or hospital and look at some case studies
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

Units covered on this course
Introduction to welfare benefits
In the first unit we will cover the welfare benefits structure, the various different categories and who can claim benefits and how they are paid. Students will cover how to make a claim, learn what a sanction is and how to appeal a decision. Students will also cover UK statistics on welfare benefits.
The types of welfare benefits
In the second unit students will explore means-tested benefits with an introduction to the different types of welfare benefits such as JSA, pension credit and council tax support. We will also cover carer welfare benefits and eligibility.
Welfare benefits for families and children
In the third unit we explore benefits for children and families. We will examine help with childcare costs and associated entitlements. Students will also learn about maternity, paternity, adoption and shared statutory pay. We will cover Healthy Start, an NHS scheme that helps women who are pregnant or have young children.
Welfare benefits and health conditions
In the final unit we will explore disability welfare benefits, personal independence payments ( PIP) , Universal credit and health conditions. Students will learn about the work capability assessment, statutory sick pay. The 4th unit will also explain what happens when a claimant is in residential care or in hospital.
