All About Duel Diagnosis Training Level 2
On completion of the course, students will gain a greater understanding of duel diagnosis and the challenges in assessing and supporting people with this condition.
You will explore some of the interventions that are used to treat dual diagnosis and reflect on the ethical and legal considerations that service providers must keep in mind. You will consider some of the tools that are used to assess people suspected of having dual diagnosis. You will also consider the need for a risk assessment and the cultural differences between people that need to be considered.
We will cover the different treatment options that are available to support people with dual diagnosis including Integrated treatment models that aim to treat both conditions at the same time. You will also also consider how improvement in one condition may affect the outcome for the other condition.
We will cover some of the legal and ethical considerations surrounding the care of dually diagnosed patients and the definition and rules around informed consent.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

- Unit 1 – Understanding Dual Diagnosis – In the first unit we will cover a brief history of recognizing duel diagnosis and its complexity as well as diagnostic and treatment challenges. We will cover the impact of dual diagnosis, its prevalence, and explore the approaches and models of treatments.
- Unit 2 – Assessment and Diagnosis – In this unit we will explore assessment principles and the comprehensive assessment in dual diagnosis. We will cover Differential diagnosis, cultural sensitivities and risk assessment.
- Unit 3 – Evidence-Based Interventions – In the third unit we will cover Integrated treatment using the Care Programme approach and models of care and types of treatments. We will explore pharmacological and none pharmacological treatment interventions. We will also cover residential rehabilitation programmes and community based and family support.
- Unit 4 – Ethical and Legal Considerations – In the final unit we will explore the legal considerations for service providers for duel diagnosis and the responsibilities around confidentiality and privacy. We will also cover ethical dilemmas for service providers and the definition and rules around informed consent.
