On completion of the course, students will gain an understanding of assistive technology in the work place, what is meant by assistive technology products and how these differ from medical devices. We will cover digital technologies and how these support services in health and social care.
We will cover the three main areas where AT can support health and social care and cover AT for communication, learning difficulties and mobility challenges as well as exploring how AT can support older people and other conditions.
You will learn about the many different types of AT and the assessment process for general needs and complex disabilities as well as looking at case studies.
We will cover the benefits of AT for users, family and care givers. You will learn how good communication and access to information and digital technology helps meet clients needs.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

The types of assistive technology in health and social care
In this unit we will explore the three main areas where AT can support health and social care. We will explore AT for communication, learning difficulties, mobility, older people, autism, and various other conditions . You will learn how AT helps users manage their condition and how devices and apps support care givers.
How to implement and use assistive technology in health and social care
In the third unit we will cover the WHO-GATE 5P framework and its importance in the provision of AT. We will explore the three components of AT, devices, services and outcomes. You will learn about the different types of AT and assessments for AT. We will also cover ethical considerations.
The benefits of assistive technology in health and social care
In the final unit we focus on the importance of and benefits of communication in health and social care. You will learn how AT can promote better communication and help people beyond their health and social care needs. We will cover the benefits of remote consultations to provide enhanced care and overcoming barriers to AT and digital technologies.
