All about Accident Reporting
On completion of the course, students will gain the knowledge and skills for handling, reporting and preventing accidents. You will gain an in-depth understanding of the legal frameworks and regulations governing accident reporting and preventing accidents as it applies in the UK.
We will cover the Health and Safety Act and the reporting of injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences regulations (RIDDOR). You will identify what constitutes an accident in the industrial context and the importance of timely and accurate reporting.
We will cover the role of incident investigators and root cause analysis techniques and the implementation of safety protocols. You will also learn about maintenance and safety checks including record keeping.
You will learn how to use reporting tools and systems effectively and we will also cover the gathering of information and witnesses. You will explore effective communications and confidentiality issues and learn the skills required for effective post accident management.
In order to complete the course, you must achieve 80% or more in the final multiple choice quiz.
You will earn 3 CPD points on completion of the course, this course will take around 3 hours to complete and the certificate will last for two years.

In the first unit we will cover the handling, reporting and prevention of accidents in the UK. You will explore the legal frameworks and regulations governing accident reporting, the health and safety act and RIDDOR. We will examine the importance of the timely and accurate reporting and the effective use of systems and tools.
Reporting Procedures and Documentation
In this unit we will explore procedures and documentation focusing on safety regulations and best practices. You will learn about immediate response and emergency measures. We will cover the process of gathering information and witness statements, completing accident report forms and communication with supervisors and authorities.
Investigating Accidents and Root Causes
In the third unit we will cover the role of incident investigators and root cause analysis techniques. We will explore the process of risk assessment in preventing recurrence of accidents. We will cover documentation, witness interviews and writing investigation reports.
Communication and Follow-Up
In the final unit we will cover the crucial stages of communication and follow up after an industrial accident. You will learn the skills needed for effective follow up including thorough investigations. We will explore the framework for reporting to management and stakeholders and long term communication and continuous improvement strategies.
